About Hannah Spray Photography

Hello there! If you're reading this, chances are you're on the hunt for a photographer on Salt Spring Island to help you capture images that tell the story of your important memories, who you are, or what you have to share with the world. Carefully crafting imagery of the people (and special creatures), places, products that matter to you is what I love to do. Bringing out the joy in each moment and creating a feeling of ease with my clients is a strong theme in the reviews of my work.

‘Salt Spring Island’ (where I live and work from) has been part of the traditional unceded territory of the Hul'qumi’num- and SENĆOŦEN-speaking peoples since time immemorial. These tribes and nations include but may not be limited to: Penálaxeth’ (Penelakut), Quw’utsun (Cowichan), Stz’uminus (Chemainus), SȾÁUTW (Tsawout), W̱JOȽEȽP (Tsartlip), BOḰEĆEN (Pauquachin), W̱SIḴEM (Tseycum), and MÁLEXEȽ (Malahat).

As well as a photographer, I am also a mother and early childhood educator, which has gifted me with tools and skills that help me to connect with children and consider the diverse needs of humans of all ages, so that we can all have an enjoyable experience. My photography style tends to be warm, clear, and true to colour. If you like vibrant photos, candid moments alongside traditionally posed images, and a photographer who is respectful, flexible and easy-going, we will likely be a beautiful fit for working together.

I'm a strong supporter of human rights for all. I long to create safe spaces where all feel equally welcome and valued, regardless of where we come from, how we look, who we love, what gender we identify with, what our spiritual practices and beliefs may be, and so on. Every being deserves kindness, safety and care, and aligning myself and my business with people who support equality and human rights for all is important to me.

I love adventures! I’m always open to chatting about capturing something beyond my typical reach of Salt Spring Island, BC and Southern Vancouver Island, or even outside of Canada. Having worked closely with various tourism-focused projects around the Southern Gulf Islands, myself and my partner (a licensed drone pilot) are always eager to support projects for sustainable, regenerative, and educational travel projects within British Columbia and the wider world.

Thank you for considering me in your search for a photographer! I’m excited to hear from you about how I can help bring to life beautiful images just for you.

I hold deep gratitude to live and work on this land, which is unceded (stolen) Coast Salish territory, where the Hul'qumi'num- and SENĆOŦEN-speaking peoples have tended the lands and surrounding waters since time immemorial. I am continually seeking to do better in how I walk on this land as a descendent of my settler ancestors. May I remain open to correction when I make a misstep, and may I be an active agent for solidarity in repairing and honouring our connections to each other, our histories and cultures, and the land.
