Maternal Memories

Motherhood is full of life and complexity. It goes all too fast and painfully slow at once.

And while it may be wrought with tough decisions and patience-testing challenges, the moments between the madness are where the fleeting beauty of these passing moments lay.

I was thrilled to be able to offer a photo session this past Spring for a mother and daughter duo, eagerly expecting a new baby to join their family.

Transformations Take Time

While Mom had carefully packed special dresses and flower crowns to transform the duo for a fanciful feel, the daughter was feeling a bit shy unsure about the whole experience at first. Being front and center of a stranger with a big camera taking photos of you can be intimidating! This is why I always like to take the time needed to get comfortable with each other at the beginning of a session before getting too busy with my shutter. People, especially children, want to feel safe and respected. Those real, deeply emotional smiles and laughs come out only in their own good time, and are not to be forced. I always let the children (and adults) know that if I ask you to do anything, you can always say "no", and I will wholly respect it.

Genuine connection and setting my clients at ease is first and foremost for me. After that, let the photoshoot begin!
